Booking a job
- When you book, you confirm you own or live in the property, or have permission to let us in.
- If you book for someone else, you’re responsible for paying, unless we agree otherwise in writing.
- If a tenant lets us in, we can ask them to sign to say the work is done.
- Please tell us what we need to know before we come: access, parking and what’s wrong. If something is missing or wrong, we may need to come back or bring other parts or people, and that can cost more.
- Sometimes we can’t take a job, for example if no engineer or part is available. We’ll tell you as soon as we can, and you won’t pay anything.
If we can’t get in
If our engineer can’t get in at the agreed time, for example because no one is home, we may charge a booking fee of one hour’s labour. The same applies if the work can’t go ahead because access details or preparation we agreed weren’t in place. If you want us to come back, a new booking fee applies. We’ll tell you our hourly rate when you book.
Prices, quotes and estimates
- We agree your price before any work starts. We can often give you a quote over the phone. If not, we quote when we visit.
- Urgent and breakdown jobs are charged by the hour, at the rate we agree when you book. Urgent and same-day call-outs can cost more than planned work.
- Our hourly rate covers labour. Parts and materials are charged on top, at the price we tell you.
- A fixed price covers the whole job as we’ve described it.
- Quotes are based on what you tell us and what we can see. If we find a problem we couldn’t have known about, we’ll stop, explain it and agree any extra cost with you before carrying on. You can say no.
- Quotes and estimates are valid for 7 days.
- We don’t charge for travel. If parking or the congestion charge applies, we’ll tell you the cost before we book. If you ask us to collect something from a supplier, we’ll agree the cost with you first.
- For larger or follow-on work, we may ask for 50% of the price when you book it, or up to the full price if the work starts within 7 days.
Paying
- Payment is due when the work is finished. You can pay by card, bank transfer or cash.
- If we have to wait on site for payment, we may charge for that time at our hourly rate, in half-hour steps.
- Parts we fit stay ours until they’re paid for in full.
- If you don’t pay within 7 days of a reminder, we may take steps to recover what you owe.
Stopping work part-way
If you ask us to stop part-way through a job, you pay for the work done up to that point: the time spent on an hourly job, or the part of a fixed-price job that’s finished.
Your right to cancel
If you’re a consumer and you book by phone, online or with us at your home, you can cancel within 14 days of agreeing the work, without giving a reason.
- If you ask us to start within those 14 days and then cancel, you pay for the work done up to the point you cancel.
- Once the work is finished at your request, you can no longer cancel it.
- If you’ve asked us to come out for an urgent repair, you can’t cancel that repair once it’s agreed. Any extra work we offer during the visit can still be cancelled.
- To cancel, call or email us. We’ll refund anything you’ve paid for work not done within 14 days, the same way you paid.
After your 14 days, please give us at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or move a visit. If you give us less notice, we may charge the booking fee.
Our guarantee
- We guarantee new installations for 3 months, covering our labour and the parts we supply.
- It doesn’t cover parts you supplied, faults or damage caused by someone else, misuse, frost, fire, flooding or storms, or work that someone else has touched since.
- If something goes wrong, tell us as soon as you can and let us take a look. If the fault turns out not to be covered, we may charge for the visit at our hourly rate.
- Manufacturers’ warranties on parts and appliances are separate. Contact the manufacturer for those.
- Our guarantee is on top of your legal rights below.
Your legal rights
By law, we must carry out our work with reasonable care and skill. If we don’t, you can ask us to put it right or, in some cases, get some money back. If we haven’t agreed a price or a finish time, the price and the time must be reasonable. Nothing in these terms takes away these rights. For free advice, contact Citizens Advice.
Leak detection and opening up
- Finding a hidden leak sometimes means lifting floors, removing panels or opening walls. We always use non-invasive methods first, and we agree it with you before we open anything up.
- Making good, such as tiling, plastering, decorating or replacing flooring, isn’t included unless it’s in your price.
- We’re responsible for damage we cause by not taking reasonable care.
Blockages and frozen pipes
We’ll do our best to clear blockages and thaw frozen pipes, but we can’t promise a result, because the cause is often out of sight. You pay for the time and work, and we can’t guarantee against future blockages. If we see a real risk, such as a frozen pipe splitting, we’ll tell you before we start.
Looking after your home
- Please move or cover furniture, flooring and valuables near where we’ll work before we arrive. We take reasonable care to avoid damage.
- We don’t take away waste, old parts or packaging unless we agree it beforehand.
Delays
We’re not responsible for delays outside our control, such as traffic or a supplier letting us down. We’ll keep you updated and keep the delay as short as we can. If the delay is long, you can cancel and we’ll refund anything you’ve paid for work not done, less reasonable costs we’ve already had to pay.
Complaints and damage
- If you’re not happy, tell us as soon as you can: email enquiry@jzprecision.co.uk or call 07362 264505. Photos and details help. We reply within 10 working days.
- If you think we’ve damaged your property, please tell us first and let us inspect it before anyone else works on it, so we can put it right.
Our responsibility for loss
- We’re responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or not taking reasonable care.
- We’re not responsible for loss that wasn’t foreseeable, that you could have avoided by acting reasonably, or that was caused only by a fault in your property that was already there.
- Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
- For business customers only: we’re not responsible for loss of profit, business or other indirect loss, and our total liability is limited to the price paid for the work.
Other terms
- We may transfer this contract to another business. We’ll tell you, and if you’re unhappy you can end it within 7 days and get back anything you’ve paid for work not done.
- Only you and we can enforce these terms.
- If a court decides part of these terms is unlawful, the rest still applies.
- If we’re slow to enforce these terms, we can still enforce them later.
- English law applies. You can bring claims in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also use your local courts.
